Executive Chairman, Alphabet Inc.
Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Google's new parent company, Alphabet, essentially functions as the tech giant's global ambassador. In January 2016, he met with Pope Francis at the Vatican. He has toured some of the world's most tightly controlled regimes (Cuba, North Korea, Saudi Arabia) to promote open Internet access.
The vast majority of Schmidt's wealth is in Alphabet stock.
In April 2015, Hillspire, his family investment vehicle, bought a 20% stake in hedge fund firm D.E. Shaw for an undisclosed price. Schmidt is also founding partner at venture capital firm Innovation Endeavors, with offices in Palo Alto and Tel Aviv, which invests in tech startups that include Uber, AngelList and helicopter booking service Blade.
